The Ministry of General Education has developed a plan to transform the education sector by improving school infrastructure, furniture, learning materials and teacher recruitment.
Minister of General Education, David Mabumba has urged teachers in Livingstone and Kazungula districts to support the developments that the ministry has embarked on.
Speaking when he addressed teachers in Livingstone and Kazungula, Mr. Mabumba challenged the teachers to be part of the solutions to the challenges faced by the Ministry of General Education.
And Mr. Mabumba has disclosed that his ministry has engaged the Ministry of Finance on the possibility of depositing grants meant for primary schools, direct into the respective school accounts.
He says the current system where the grants for primary schools are channeled through the provincial and district education offices is negatively affecting operations of the primary schools.
And addressing teachers in Livingstone, Southern Province Deputy Permanent Secretary, Kennedy Mubanga, appealed to the teachers to have a positive influence on their learners.
Meanwhile, Southern Province Education Officer, Florence Chikalekale, says her administration is determined to improve the education sector in the region.
